Speaking at the Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE) during the launch of the Youth Climate Policy and Advocacy Training programme, Spouse of the Deputy President Joyce Kithure said young people have strong digital skills that can be used to spread environmental awareness.
Joyce said the youth have the greatest interest in the future because they will live long enough to either enjoy the benefits of a well-protected planet or suffer the consequences of its neglect.
Gorfly Mokua, founder and director of Africa Youth Care Group (AYCG), which is behind the training initiative, commended Joyce for her commitment to environmental sustainability through her SaVE Community Initiative.
University of Nairobi Department of Chemistry chairman Prof David Kariuki stressed the importance of scientific innovation and discoveries in addressing climate change.
National Research Fund (NRF) CEO Prof Dickson Andala also urged young people to make use of government institutions to seek strategic support for programmes focused on climate change mitigation.
