Detectives are investigating the circumstances under which a 25-year-old man drowned in River Thwake in Kathiani, Machakos County, while travelling back to Nairobi after completing a Wi-Fi repair job in Masii.
The deceased, identified as Barnabas Lucky Baraza, is reported to have drowned on Sunday, August 9, 2026.
According to three of the deceased’s workmates, they worked for an IT company and had travelled to Masii to repair Wi-Fi services.
After completing the assignment, the team began their journey back to Nairobi.
Upon reaching River Thwake, Baraza reportedly asked the driver to stop so that he could relieve himself.
The driver stopped and Baraza got out of the vehicle.
When he took longer than expected to return, his three colleagues left the vehicle to look for him.
They told police they found his clothes on a stone near the river and, after moving closer, reportedly saw him enter the water.
The three men reportedly attempted to assist him by cutting sticks to reach him, but he is said to have drowned before they could rescue him.
Divers later retrieved his body from the river.
Police processed and photographed the scene before the body was moved to Kathiani Level Four Hospital mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.
Elsewhere, a 30-year-old man drowned in the Nairobi River in Shauri Moyo, Nairobi, after he reportedly fell into the water while attempting to cross the river.
The deceased was identified as Joseph Kinyanjui.
Police said Kinyanjui had called his mother at about 1:30 pm on Monday, August 10, saying that he was feeling unwell.
His mother reportedly sent a boda boda rider to pick him up and take him to hospital.
However, when the rider arrived in the Shauri Moyo Blue Estate area, he was reportedly informed by another person that Kinyanjui had fallen into the Nairobi River while attempting to cross it.
Police officers visited the scene and found Kinyanjui’s body floating in the river.
The body had no visible physical injuries and was retrieved before Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) officers processed the scene.
The body was later moved to Nairobi Funeral Home pending a post-mortem examination.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the drowning.
Meanwhile, police in Kyuso, Kitui County, are investigating the death of a 20-year-old man who was reportedly stabbed with a knife by a person known to him.
The deceased was identified as David Kimwele, a resident of Inyanzae Village in Kavaani Location.
The incident was reported to Ngomeni Police Station at about 1 pm on Monday, August 10, 2026, by the deceased’s father, Kimwele Kathumbi.
According to the police report, David was reportedly attacked and stabbed by a man known to him.
The suspect reportedly fled the scene after the incident and remained at large as police launched a manhunt.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the reported stabbing and the motive behind the incident.
