Forex trader Onyago Tate has stirred discussion online after explaining why he chose to leave university, saying the traditional education system did not fit his ambition of becoming wealthy.
In remarks shared on social media, Tate said he made the decision after concluding that university education was not the path he believed would lead him to financial success.
“I dropped out of university after I realised university is very useless to me because I wanted to become rich and university cannot teach you to become rich,” he said.
He claimed his outlook was influenced by observing people within the academic system and deciding to pursue a different route.

“Learn a high-income skill”
“The only way you are going to become successful is if you learn a high-income skill,” he said.
The trader added that he had found success outside conventional education and credited his journey to real-world experiences and self-development.
He also used the opportunity to promote his online trading community, saying he mentors traders seeking what he described as an “exceptional life”.
“The moment you start walking with winners, you also become a winner,” he added.

Social media users are divided.
Tate’s comments quickly triggered mixed reactions online, reflecting wider public conversations around education, careers and financial independence.
Some users supported his perspective, arguing that a university does not automatically guarantee prosperity.
One commenter wrote:
“I always regret my four years wasted on campus… anyways, it’s never too late.”
Another added:
“Exactly. Education is just a way to get a job, but success is earned.”
Others responded with scepticism or humour.
“Sasa nidrop out of university ama?” one user asked jokingly.
