A crowd gathered outside a mechanic shop in Nairobi’s streets was treated to an unexpected spectacle after a police officer took on a local man reputed to be the Kariobangi’s strongest in an arm-wrestling contest.
The impromptu match, held on a professional arm-wrestling table, quickly drew attention as people formed a circle around the two contestants, eager to witness the showdown.
The police officer, dressed in full blue uniform, faced off with the confident challenger as onlookers cheered and joked from the sidelines.
Before the contest started, a man overseeing the match lightened the mood with playful remarks, teasing the officer about the State’s “long arm” and questioning whether it also came with strength.
“Wanasema serikali iko na mkono mrefu, acha tuone kama hiyo mkono iko pia na nguvu leo,” he said.
He urged the Kariobangi contender not to lose to “the government”, drawing laughter from the crowd.
The officer responded in jest, warning his opponent with a smile that defeat might come with consequences, further fuelling the lively atmosphere.
At the count of three, the first round began with both men locking right hands and straining for advantage.
The crowd fell momentarily silent, watching closely as muscles tensed and the arm table shook under pressure.
Within seconds, the officer gained the upper hand, pinning his opponent’s arm down to claim the first round.
Cheers and laughter erupted as the crowd reacted to the unexpected outcome.
The competitors then switched to their left hands for a second round.
Encouraged by chants from supporters backing the local favourite, the Kariobangi man appeared determined to redeem himself.
However, after another brief but intense struggle, the officer once again overpowered him, sealing a clean sweep victory.
The crowd burst into laughter and applause, with the light-hearted mood continuing even after the match ended.
In a humorous concession, the defeated challenger joked that he had allowed the officer to win because of the firearm he carried, prompting even louder reactions from those watching.
The moment, captured and shared online, has since drawn attention for its blend of humour, competition and community engagement.
In a post accompanying the video, Kenya Fitness Plug described the encounter as part of an ongoing “Arm Wrestling Challenge” series aimed at bringing together people from different walks of life.
“On this episode of the Arm Wrestling Challenge, we had an exciting face-off between a police officer and a nduthi guy. It was truly impressive watching them go head to head, each bringing strength, grit and determination to the table,” the post read.
The platform added that the challenge is open to everyone, from mechanics to professionals, and hinted that more such street contests could be coming soon.
