Kimani Mbugua has been re admitted into the Mombasa Women Rehabilitation Centre in Mombasa in a second attempt to help him recover.
The ex-journalist through the help of Mike Sonko has been assured of unwavering support in this journey.
On Mike Sonko’s YouTube channel Sunday March 30, 2025, Sonko explains his desire to see the young man face his struggles head on.
“Umemtoa wapi?” The politician asks men surrounding him. They respond “Thika”
He invites the young man into his office where he demands to know why Kimani is causing trouble “Mbona unasumbua watu?”
A few minutes later he thanks Sonko for inviting him inside “Mkubwa asante sana” as they fist bump.
They discuss briefly about another individual who was also in rehab with a bipolar condition, to serve as encouragement that Kimani can also recover if he puts effort.
Sonko informs Kimani that he will give him another chance “I’m giving you one more chance, okay?” while serving hi a warning “Mi natoka mambo yako. What’s wrong with you, tell me what’s wrong with you?” Sonko enquires as Kimani answered “Nothing”
“Promise me you are going to change, promise. So, I want to call mama Amina, are you ready to go back there? And this time, please ukitoka, wachana na mambo ya..” he gestures to his mouth.
“Yes” agrees Kimani.

The politician has a solution this time round.
“But this time round, hakuna kutoka haraka mpaka we monitor him and make sure he is healed kabisa. Plus, if we can find him some sort of job, an attachment, those sides, he can earn a salary,”
“Sisi tunashukuru Governor, kwasababu unajua hata last time angekuwa bado matibabu yake haija kamilika, lakini kawaida familia ikitaka mgonjwa, hatuwezi wakataliza . Mi pia nataka kusema ya kwamba naomba tu mgonjwa tukuletewa tupatiwe nafasi yetu, tumtibu”
The Ex Governor agrees, “But in future, don’t discharge”
Kimani also appears encouraged as they speak about Conjestina Achieng who is also at the same facility.

Following reports that Kimani Mbugua has gone relapsed and gone back to the streets, today, I dispatched a team to locate him. He was found in Makongeni estate, Thika, Kiambu county. He was brought to our headquarters, where we are currently overseeing his well-being after providing him with new clothing and allowing him to take a refreshing shower.
I engaged him in an extensive counselling session and decided to offer him a second chance.
Given his current condition, we are unable to fly him to Mombasa as initially planned; instead, he will be driven back to the Mombasa Women’s Rehabilitation Centre tomorrow.
I have chosen not to involve Kimani’s family at this stage, but I will ensure that he remains at the rehabilitation centre.
Upon his full recovery, he will have the opportunity to work there, similarly to Conjestina Achieng, who has been discharged and offered a position to provide counselling services at the centre.
