Sidian Bank rolls out WASH campaign to boost clean water access in Meru schools

Sidian Bank has rolled out a Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) campaign in Meru County aimed at improving access to clean water and promoting hygiene awareness in schools and communities.

The initiative was launched on January 26, 2026, as part of the bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility programme. I

t targets different parts of Meru County and responds to what the bank described as a “practical and pressing need” for clean water access.

As part of the campaign, Sidian Bank is donating 10,000-litre water tanks across several constituencies. The project is being implemented in close collaboration with local leadership and community structures.

The bank said the initiative is designed to ease daily water access challenges while promoting better hygiene practices at the household and community level. It also seeks to reduce vulnerability and support healthier communities.

Speaking during the launch, Simon Mwangi, the Head of Government and Institutional Banking at Sidian Bank, said the campaign reflects the lender’s approach to development partnerships and its focus on sustainable impact.

“Access to clean water is not just a basic need, it is a foundation for health, dignity, and economic stability,” Mwangi said.

“Through this WASH campaign, Sidian Bank is investing in practical solutions that respond to real community needs and support long-term resilience.”

He added that collaboration with local leaders was central to the programme’s success.

“By working closely with local leadership, we are ensuring that these interventions deliver lasting impact beyond today’s handover,” he said.

The campaign places a strong emphasis on schools, where access to clean and reliable water remains a challenge in many areas.

By providing water storage solutions, the bank aims to improve hygiene standards and create safer learning environments for students.

Local leaders welcomed the initiative, describing it as timely and relevant to community needs.

Mbeere South Member of Parliament, Eng. Nebart Bernard Muriuki, praised the programme and said it would have a positive effect on health and livelihoods.

“For many families here in Mbeere South, access to clean water remains a daily struggle. This support will ease that burden and contribute to better health and livelihoods,” Muriuki said.

He said the partnership demonstrated how collaboration between the private sector and communities can deliver meaningful change.

“We appreciate this partnership and look forward to continued collaboration that puts the needs of the community first,” he said.

According to Sidian Bank, the WASH campaign aligns with its broader sustainability agenda.

The agenda focuses on supporting practical, community-driven initiatives that deliver tangible outcomes, strengthen resilience and improve quality of life, particularly in underserved areas.

The bank said its approach to sustainability is anchored in interventions that address everyday challenges faced by communities, while supporting long-term development goals.
