Government services in Magarini Constituency, Kilifi County, are expected to improve following the creation of two administrative units aimed at bringing national government administration closer to residents.
The constituency has been divided into Magarini North and Magarini South to strengthen coordination of national government functions and improve service delivery. The two units will remain within Magarini Constituency.
Speaking on behalf of the Kilifi County Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner Michael Ololtuaa said the new arrangement would make it easier for residents to access government services.
Ololtuaa, who previously served as the deputy commissioner overseeing Magarini Constituency and is now the Deputy Commissioner of Magarini South, said the two units would remain within the constituency despite the new administrative arrangement.
“Having separate administrative units would improve the coordination of government activities and allow administrators to respond more effectively to issues affecting residents” he said.
“For years, government administration in large constituencies has faced the challenge of serving residents spread across wide geographical areas, for now the establishment of the two units is expected to address some of those challenges by ensuring that residents have government administrators operating within closer reach”.
Magarini South will be administered from Marafa, while Magarini North will initially operate from Gongoni before eventually moving to Kibaoni, which is expected to become its headquarters.
Following the creation of the two units, Emmanuel Ngalla Mwachiro has been appointed Deputy Commissioner for Magarini North. Ololtuaa will oversee Magarini South.
Mwachiro is expected to oversee national government administration in Magarini North and work with residents and other government agencies to address local concerns.
According to Mwachiro, the new administrative unit will also create opportunities for young people in the area.
“The establishment of Magarini North would provide greater opportunities for local youth, including those seeking employment opportunities in the security services” he said.
Mwachiro did not give details on the number of jobs expected to be created or identify specific recruitment programmes that would benefit local youth.
For now, the Magarini North deputy commissioner’s office will operate from Gongoni before being relocated to Kibaoni. The temporary arrangement will allow the unit to begin operations as preparations for its permanent headquarters continue.
Ololtuaa also called on residents of Magarini North to work closely with Mwachiro on security matters and other issues affecting the area.
The creation of the two units does not alter Magarini’s status as a constituency or its political boundaries. Magarini North and Magarini South will operate as separate national government administrative units within the existing constituency.
The new arrangement will give each area a designated deputy commissioner and administrative office, with the two officers responsible for coordinating government functions and working with other agencies.
The government expects the arrangement to bring administration closer to residents and improve coordination of government services and security matters across the constituency.
As Magarini North begins operations under Mwachiro and Magarini South continues under Ololtuaa, the two areas will remain part of one constituency while having separate national government administrative structures.
