Awinja’s Dating Revelation: Why She “Rejected” Alex Mwakideu

Kenyan actress and comedian Jacky Vike, popularly known as Awinja, has opened up about why she seemingly rejected Radio 47 host Alex Mwakideu in the past.

Speaking during an interview on Radio 47, Alex Mwakideu playfully recalled his past attempt at wooing Jacky Vike (Awinja), saying:

“Nilikukatia, ukanikataa.” (I shot my shot at you, but you rejected me.)

However, the actress quickly clarified:

“I would have accepted you immediately—I did not turn him down. He never really made his intentions clear; it was like he wanted me to guess! You can’t just take me out, buy me lunch, and assume I’ll know you want to date me.”

Mwakideu is now happily married to Mariam Mwemba, and together they have three daughters. The couple has been married for 10 years and has known each other for 18 years.

As the world celebrated International Women’s Day, Mwakideu took to social media to honour his wife with a heartfelt message:

“Happy International Women’s Day, my love! Today, I celebrate you—not just because it’s your day, but because you are truly one of a kind. Your patience, kindness, and forgiving heart make our love stronger every day. The way you treat me like a king and honor my family with so much respect shows the depth of your beautiful soul. And speaking of beauty—my love, you are everything I ever prayed for and more. I am beyond blessed to have you by my side. Thank you for being the incredible woman that you are. I love you always!”

Mwakideu’s Long Pursuit of Mariam

The radio host revealed that he first met Mariam in 2006, while he was still dating someone else.

“Mariam alinisumbua kweli! I pursued her since 2006… but she would always tell me that I had not settled.”

However, things took a turn when he moved to Nairobi for work.

“I had a girlfriend but was still charming her. When I came to Nairobi, I told her I did not have a girlfriend, and that’s when she finally accepted me.”

The two officially tied the knot in 2014, and Mwakideu has since vowed to remain committed to her.

“We did a wedding in 2014… our journey has been long, but I am not leaving her. I already told her that in front of a church.”

Awinja’s Private Life

While Awinja is a proud mother of one, she has kept her personal life private, leaving fans wondering whether she is currently dating.
