Kenyan content creator Cassypool Capon has revealed that supporting President William Ruto during the 2024 Gen Z uprising ruined his career. Speaking on the Tubonge podcast hosted by Chris the Bass, the vocal media figure detailed the heavy personal and professional price he paid for endorsing the controversial Finance Bill.
A Backlash from Followers
Cassypool stated that approximately 90 per cent of his social media followers turned against him after he aligned himself with the government. His fan base felt deeply betrayed by his public stance during the youth-led nationwide demonstrations.
“I stood with William Ruto when nobody wanted to associate with him. I killed my brand because of William Ruto,” Cassypool admitted.

Addressing public rumours that he had been heavily compensated by political figures, Cassypool denied receiving any money for his support. He insisted that his endorsement stemmed from his own convictions rather than financial gain.
“I was never paid anything, God is my witness.”
Financial Collapse and Mental Health Struggles
The loss of public support triggered severe financial hardship for the content creator. Cassypool disclosed that he was auctioned, lost all his savings, and could no longer afford basic living costs such as house rent.
At the height of the crisis, he received more than 1,000 hostile text messages from disgruntled followers. The intense public hostility and isolation damaged his mental health.
“I got into depression to an extent whereby I wanted to commit su*cid*.”
A Public Apology and Warning to Celebrities
During the podcast recording, Cassypool delivered a direct apology to his former supporters. He admitted that taking a firm political stance was a mistake.
“Please find somewhere in your heart to forgive me. I did wrong, I chose a political stand, I am so sorry.”
Reflecting on his political journey, which began in 2007 when he first ran for parliament at age 21, Cassypool cautioned other public figures against joining political campaigns.

Rebuilding Across the Border
Cassypool expressed frustration that former critics of the government are now receiving access to state opportunities while he remains sidelined. However, he noted that he has managed to rebuild his career outside Kenya.
By shifting his focus to Tanzania, Cassypool has secured more than five corporate brand sponsorship deals. He credited the new environment for giving him a fresh start away from local political hostility.
