Kericho residents have been urged to work with the county government to ensure Litein becomes a well-structured, clean, and water-sufficient town.
Speaking at the Kericho County headquarters during the swearing-in ceremony of the newly appointed Litein Municipality Council members, Governor Erick Mutai highlighted the county’s commitment to improving infrastructure, water supply, and sanitation.
“Litein Municipality must be properly structured and well-drained to provide a high quality of life for residents and the council has a duty to make that vision a reality”. Governor Mutai reiterated.
One of the key projects announced was the Sh 2.3 billion Litein/Itare Water and Sewerage Project, which aims to provide a sustainable supply of clean water and improve sanitation services for residents.
“Water is a fundamental need. With this project, we are ensuring that Litein residents get a reliable and sustainable supply of clean water,” Governor Mutai noted.
Additionally, major infrastructural developments are set to begin, including the cabro paving of Litein, Cheborge, Chemosot, and Kapkatet towns under the Kenya Urban Support Program (KUSP), funded by the World Bank.
Governor Mutai also emphasized the importance of the project, saying there is a need for urban centers to be modern, accessible, and well-maintained to enhance movement, reduce dust, and improve the overall outlook of the town.
The formation of the Litein Municipality Council follows the recent division of Kericho Municipality into two including the Litein Municipality and Kericho Municipality, which was designed to improve governance and bring services closer to the people.
In attendance were leaders of councils who demonstrated a unified approach to county leadership.
Governor Mutai urged the new council members to lead with integrity and commitment.
“I expect this council to judge fairly, serve diligently, and bring real change to Litein. Their success will be measured by the quality of services delivered to the people,” Governor Mutai stated.
The newly appointed Litein Municipality Council members Hillary Bett, Eunice Kirui, Stephen Mutai, Peter Ngeno, and Geoffrey Bett took an oath of office in a swearing-in ceremony presided over by Kericho Chief Magistrate Tito Ngesora.
With a clear development agenda, the Litein Municipality Council now takes office, tasked with implementing key projects that will transform infrastructure, sanitation, and urban planning, positioning Litein for long-term growth and sustainability.
