Mugithi Star Samidoh to Vie for Ol Joro Orok MP Seat in 2027 Under Gachagua’s DCP

Popular Mugithi musician Samidoh Muchoki has declared his interest in vying for the Member of Parliament seat in Ol Joro Orok Constituency ahead of the 2027 General Election. The constituency is one of five in Nyandarua County and has an estimated population of over 90,000 residents.

Alignment With Gachagua’s DCP Party

Samidoh indicated that he intends to contest under the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), a political outfit associated with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. The party, launched in 2025, has positioned itself as youth-focused and aims to field candidates across various elective positions in the country.
The musician’s announcement follows a series of hints shared on his social media platforms, including campaign-style posters encouraging Kenyans to register as voters under the “#TukoKadi” mobilisation drive.
“Democracy works when you show up. One registration today, a lifetime of impact tomorrow,” read part of his message shared online.

From Music to Public Service

Samidoh, who rose to prominence through Mugithi music and previously served as a police officer, has in the past alluded to joining politics. His latest declaration now places him among a growing number of Kenyan entertainers expressing interest in elective positions.
His move also reflects a broader trend where public figures leverage their popularity to transition into leadership roles, particularly at the constituency level.

Online Reactions and Public Response

Following the announcement, Kenyans took to social media to share mixed reactions:
  • @NiNavel: “Niko kadi… one term is unstoppable.”
  • @JuliaDaniel: “Register and verify is the way to go, our incoming MP.”
  • @PeterPeter: Urged voters to prioritize leadership qualities over fame.
  • @EuniceMaina: Expressed readiness to vote early in support of his bid.
While some users expressed enthusiasm, others raised concerns about the challenges of transitioning from entertainment to politics.

Focus on 2027 Elections

Samidoh’s declaration comes as political alignments begin to take shape ahead of the 2027 General Election. His association with the DCP party and the “Tuko Kadi” voter registration push highlights early mobilization efforts targeting youth and first-time voters.
The singer has not yet officially launched a campaign, but his statements and branding suggest preparations are underway for a formal bid.
