Babu Owino pays tribute to mother on his birthday

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has paid tribute to his mother, Dorcas Owino, crediting her sacrifices and faith in God for the journey that has brought him this far in life.

In a heartfelt birthday message, the lawmaker reflected on his upbringing and the challenges his mother endured to give him a better future, saying her sacrifices deserved recognition before he celebrated another year of his life.

“Today, as I celebrate another year of my existence, my heart goes back to the woman who made it all possible—you, Mum,” Babu wrote.

He described his journey as a testament to his mother’s sacrifices, her faith and God’s grace, emphasising the role she played in shaping his future.

The MP revealed that his mother made a living selling locally brewed alcohol in the informal settlement as she worked to give him a better life.

“Mum, you sold chang’aa in the slums, made sacrifices that the world may never fully understand, and did everything within your power to give me a better life,” he wrote.

He said she endured difficulties and carried burdens quietly to allow him to build a better future.

The legislator credited her determination with helping him overcome challenges along the way.

“You carried burdens silently so I could have a chance at a brighter future. If I have come this far, it is because you refused to give up on me,” Babu stated.

The lawmaker also acknowledged his mother’s role in introducing him to faith, saying his relationship with God had helped him navigate difficult moments in his life.

He described God as his anchor through struggles and victories, adding that the woman who gave him life had also shown him where to find strength when circumstances became difficult.

“You also introduced me to God, and He has been my anchor through every storm, every struggle, and every victory,” he wrote.

Babu’s message placed emphasis on the influence of parental sacrifice and the role his mother played in giving him hope and direction as he pursued his ambitions.

As he turned 37, the MP said the occasion was not only about celebrating his own life, but also recognising the woman whose efforts helped shape it.

“The woman who gave me life also showed me where to find strength when life became difficult,” he said.

He concluded by reiterating that his mother deserved to be celebrated alongside him, placing her at the centre of his birthday reflection.

“Today, as I celebrate my birthday, I celebrate you too. Mum, I celebrate myself, but I honour you first,” Babu wrote.

He ended the message with a simple birthday declaration: “Happy birthday to me.”
