The Public Service Commission (PSC) has announced that the 2026 Proficiency Examination for Clerical Officers will be conducted from September 21 to September 24, 2026, at nine examination centres across the country.
In a notice signed by PSC Secretary and Chief Executive Paul Famba, the Commission said the examinations will be held in Machakos, Nyeri, Mombasa, Embu, Garissa, Kisumu, Nakuru, Kakamega and Eldoret.
The PSC said the actual examination venues will be communicated to registered candidates after the registration process is completed.
The Commission has outlined the eligibility requirements for officers seeking to sit the examination. Candidates must have attained a minimum Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) mean grade of C- (minus) or its equivalent. They must also be designated as clerical officers in the Public Service and have served in that capacity for at least one year.
The PSC directed first-time candidates to complete Form A, which must be duly filled by their Head of Department or Section. Candidates re-sitting the examination are required to complete Form B.
Both registration forms are available on the Public Service Commission website.
According to the notice, completed registration forms, together with the Government copy of the receipt generated through the eCitizen platform, must be submitted to the Secretary and Chief Executive of the Public Service Commission in Nairobi.
The Commission said the documents must reach its offices by Friday, August 28, 2026.
“All candidates attempting the examination for the first time are required to complete registration FORM A duly filled by their Head of Department/ Section while referred candidates should complete FORM B available on the Public Service Commission website www.publicservice.go.ke,” the notice states.
The PSC also reminded candidates that registration fees are payable through the eCitizen platform.
The examination attracts a basic registration fee of Sh2,625, while each examination paper costs Sh875. Since the examination consists of seven papers, candidates sitting all papers will pay the applicable charges in addition to the mandatory eCitizen fee of Sh50.
The Commission has provided an online registration process through the PSC eCitizen portal, where applicants are required to submit their details, select whether they are registering for the first time or a re-sit, choose the examination type and centre, and await approval before making payment.
It said that successful applicants will receive approval notifications via SMS to their registered telephone numbers, after which they can complete payment and download the Government copy of the receipt for submission with the registration form.
Candidates who fail to submit their registration forms by the August 28 deadline will be allowed to register late at an additional cost.
“A late registration fee of Sh525 will be charged on all candidates who submit their registration forms after Friday 28th August, 2026. The deadline for late registration is Thursday 3rd September 2026,” the Commission said.
Meanwhile, the PSC announced that certificates for officers who passed the September 2025 Proficiency Examination for Clerical Officers are ready for collection.
The certificates can be collected from the Public Service Commission House during official working hours.
Officers collecting the certificates have been asked to present their original national identification card or passport.
The Commission also urged officers who passed promotional examinations administered by the PSC in previous years but are yet to collect their certificates to do so.
The PSC encouraged prospective candidates to obtain detailed registration information and download the relevant forms from its official website before the registration deadlines.
