Kenyan comedian Yy posted a light-hearted video on his instagram page questioning reports suggesting that the entire country was experiencing a power outage.
Speaking in his comedic style, Yy repeatedly challenged the idea that electricity had disappeared across Kenya, insisting that power was clearly available where he was.
“Mnanishangaza sana. Ati sijui stima imepotea, sijui Kenya mzima.”
Rejecting the “Kenya Mzima” Narrative
In the video, Yy expressed disbelief at claims that the whole country had been affected by a blackout.
He argued that electricity was still available and questioned why the situation was being described as a nationwide problem.
“What do you mean ati stima imepotea Kenya mzima?” he asked. He continued by saying there was “too much power” where he was and insisted that electricity was working “smoothly and efficiently.”
Pointing to Specific Areas
Yy went on to mention several locations, saying isolated areas should not be used to describe the situation across the country.
He referred to Umoja, Kitengela, Rongai and Zimmerman while questioning how reports from a few places could be turned into a national issue.
“Umoja, Kitengela, Rongai na Zimmerman imegeuka whole country?” he asked.
His remarks centred on the difference between localised outages and claims suggesting the entire country was without electricity.
A Series of Questions
Throughout the clip, Yy framed his message through a string of rhetorical questions. He repeatedly asked which country people were referring to when saying Kenya had lost power.
“Which country? Which whole country are you guys talking about?” he said. He then added that electricity appeared to be functioning normally where he was. “Isn’t this power? Isn’t this electricity working smoothly and efficiently?”

Towards the end of the video, Yy urged people not to include him in claims that the whole country was experiencing a blackout.
