Wetang’ula, Farouk to lead Tutam rally in Eldoret

Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang’ula and President William Ruto’s aide Farouk Kibet are set to lead a major “Tutam” Kenya rally in Eldoret City aimed at rallying support for President Ruto’s second term in office.

The rally will be held at the now-famous Silverline Grounds along Ronald Ngala Street in the city’s central business district.

A section of the street leading to Kisumu Road will be closed to allow Kenya Kwanza leaders to hold the rally.

More than 30 MPs, senators, governors and other leaders from the Rift Valley and Western regions are expected to attend the rally, which will be hosted by Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii.

The leaders are expected to focus on voter registration, President Ruto’s scorecard, peace and unity, while also drumming up support for the President’s Tutam bid.

Majority Leaders Kimani Ichung’wah and Aaron Cheruiyot, alongside legislators Sylvanus Osoro, Mwengi Mutuse, Oscar Sudi, Innocent Mugabe, John Bwire, Didmus Barasa and Japheth Nyakundi, are among those expected to attend.

“Our main agenda will be the unity of our people, peace and focus on development as we head to the elections,” Farouk said.

Farouk has been instrumental in mobilising support for Ruto in the Western and Rift Valley regions and has been under pressure from Turbo Constituency residents to vie for the seat next year.

He is yet to officially declare his bid, but his slogan, “Turbo Kwanza, Mambo baadaye”, has been trending in the constituency, where he has initiated several development programmes.

Uasin Gishu is Ruto’s political backyard, and he recently raised concern over low voter registration across the Rift Valley region.

Local leaders have since intensified campaigns urging residents to register as voters ahead of next year’s polls.

The Eldoret CBD rally will be the first major Kenya Kwanza political rally in the area in recent months, with the coalition having largely focused on church and empowerment events.
