How Eldoret Grade Four pupil was killed by a speeding lorry According to Isaac Njuguna, an eyewitness, the pupil was knocked from behind by the tipper before the driver fled under the cover of dust to Langas Police Station. The boy died on the spot.  “The student was just walking along the road, and all of a sudden, I heard an unusual sound. On looking back, I saw blood was oozing from his head. We raised an alarm and tried to stop the driver, but he ran to Langas Police Station,” Njuguna told TUKO.co.ke. TUKO.co.ke Uasin Gishu correspondent visited the parents of the deceased boy at their home, and they were all overwhelmed with heavy emotions that they did not manage to speak. In their place, Judith Wangoi, a relative, pinned the blame on the school administration and the learner’s class teacher for sending children to go home to collect money instead of calling their parents. “I am sure that had they called the parents of our late child, they would have responded, and we would not be here planning his burial. We therefore ask for justice and ask that all the culpable people be held personally responsible,” Wangoi said bitterly.

John Kimani, the Yamumbi village elder, narrated how the loaded tippers are carelessly and dangerously driven in the area. “The lorries are very dangerous, and we recently resolved that they should take other alternative routes to avoid fatal accidents. Many farmers have lost their livestock in this area, and many residents, especially the elderly, are suffering from dust-related illnesses,” the elder said. The driver of the ill-fated tipper was arrested and is currently being held at Langas Police Station. Confirming the incident, Kapseret sub-county police commander, Zephania Kamuren, said investigations had been launched. He assured the family and the locals that justice would be served. “The lorry veered off the road and sadly killed the 10-year-old boy. We have launched our investigation to know the exact cause of the accident, and I promise you that we will make sure that you get justice because even as we are speaking, we have the suspect in our custody,” Kamuren told locals during an urgent peace meeting convened to quell rising tension.
