How Lil Wayne Became a 14-Yr-Old Father Because of His Mother’s Request

Lil Wayne, the world-famous rapper and record executive from New Orleans, has shared a startling revelation about his early life. During a recent appearance on the Friends Keep Secrets podcast, the artist discussed the unique circumstances surrounding the birth of his first child.

He told hosts Benny Blanco and Lil Dicky that his mother asked him to start a family when he was only 14 years old.

A Family Facing Tragedy

The request was not a random suggestion. It was born out of a period of intense personal grief and professional transition. Wayne explained that his stepfather had been murdered that same year. At the same time, his career was beginning to take flight.

Wayne’s schedule was changing rapidly. Initially, his music career allowed him to spend most of the week at home. His early performances were largely restricted to weekend dates. However, this changed once his label, Cash Money Records, secured a distribution deal with Universal.

The Impact of Fame and Loneliness

The new business deal meant Wayne had to leave home for extended periods. He recalled being on the road for six months during a major tour. When he finally returned home to New Orleans, he found his mother struggling with the silence of their house.

My dad had just got murdered that year. The same year I blew up.” His mother expressed her feelings of isolation directly to him.

Mother’s Plea

According to Wayne, his mother questioned his new lifestyle. She was worried about his long absences. “Is this what you about to be doing?” she asked him. “Should I expect that? You were gone for too long. I’m lonely. My husband’s gone.

To resolve her loneliness, she suggested a formal meeting with Wayne and his then-girlfriend, Toya Johnson. Wayne recalled her saying, “Listen, let’s have a sit-down. Me, you and Toya [his girlfriend].” This conversation set the stage for Wayne to become a father while still a child himself.

Early Fatherhood and Legacy

Although the conversation began when Wayne was 14, he and Toya Johnson welcomed their daughter, Reginae Carter, a few years later. By the time of the birth, Wayne was 16 and Toya was 15. Reginae has since grown up to become a television personality and social media figure.

The couple eventually married in 2004. However, the marriage ended in divorce two years later. Since then, Wayne has had three more children: Dwayne III, Kameron, and Neal.
