Budget law opens door for Marsabit projects

Marsabit has taken a significant step towards implementing its development agenda for the 2025-26 financial year, following the signing of the Supplementary Appropriations Bill, 2026, into law.

Governor Mohamud Ali on Wednesday assented to the Bill during a ceremony attended by members of the county executive and county assembly members. Clerk Chare Mato presided over the session.

The approval now paves the way for the release and utilisation of critical funds aimed at driving development projects in the county.

Governor Ali described the supplementary budget-making process as both rigorous and inclusive, noting it incorporated views from residents at the grassroots level.

He said public participation was central to ensuring the final budget reflects the real needs and priorities of the people.

“This process was both thorough and participatory, ensuring the needs and priorities of our people are well-represented in the budget,” the county chief said.

The governor also commended the county assembly for its role in scrutinising the Bill, praising members for their commitment to a consultative and transparent legislative process.

He said the assembly’s diligence ensured the document underwent a comprehensive review and meaningful public engagement before being passed.

Finance and economic planning executive Hussein Fundi urged county departments to act swiftly in preparing the necessary documentation to facilitate smooth implementation of the budget.

He underscored the importance of efficiency, accountability and adherence to financial procedures in executing the approved plans.
