Governor Kachapin races against time to complete projects before term ends

West Pokot Governor Simon Kachapin has commissioned several initiatives as he races to complete his legacy projects before his term ends next year.

Residents living along the West Pokot–Trans-Nzoia border will benefit from improved access to healthcare, clean water and transport following the launch and commissioning of the development projects.

Kachapin said he is keen to ensure that projects he initiated are completed.

“My plan is to ensure that all our projects are up and running to benefit the people of West Pokot,” he said.
Kachapin commissioned Karenger Dispensary in Riwo ward, a facility aimed at improving access to basic medical services for residents who for many years have had to travel long distances to seek treatment.
The dispensary is part of continued efforts by the county to strengthen healthcare services and ensure that no community is left behind.
Kachapin urged healthcare workers to support the ongoing nationwide registration under the Social Health Authority (SHA), noting that enrolling residents will enable them to access affordable healthcare services while supporting the sustainability of local health facilities.
The governor also handed over an ambulance to Kanyarkwat Dispensary to help improve emergency and referral services.
Kachapin also launched grading and maintenance works on the 7km Kanyarkwat–Kapkoi Road and the Trans-Nzoia Border–Kanyarkwat–Napawoi Road.
The improved roads will ease transport services.
Also commissioned was the Kanyarkwat Water Project, where a borehole has been drilled and solarised to provide reliable access to clean water for households and nearby institutions.
The solar-powered system will ensure an efficient and sustainable water supply for the community.
Both the road and water projects have been implemented under the Equalisation Fund, which aims to expand access to essential services in marginalised areas.
Kachapin promised to frequently inspect ongoing work on the projects so that they are completed in time.
“We have also directed all our engineers and county staff to ensure that the work on the projects is done as per recommended quality and standards,” he said.
