Trans Nzoia governor George Natembeya has raised alarm over alleged issuance of national ID cards to foreigners in areas along the Kenya-Uganda border.
Natembeya claimed that the issuance was part of a scheme to have the foreigners register as voters in the area ahead of next year’s general elections.
The governor said he had raised the matter with relevant administration officials and warned that such a security breach would not be tolerated.
“We know it’s part of a scheme to have the foreigners cross the border so that they come and elect leaders for us but that will not happen at all costs”, he said.
His county borders Uganda, and Natembeya said residents would not allow strangers to participate in elections even if they were issued with the IDs and voters cards.
“We will not allow any non-Kenyans to come here and participate in elections. Let them not risk because our people will not accept that non sense,” said Natembeya.
The governor, who spoke at a meeting in Endebes, said his teams on the ground were monitoring the situation and would take the necessary action to stop the foreigners.
Trans Nzoia County Commissioner Gideon Oyagi, however, denied the allegations and said his office had no reports on the same.
“If the governor has credible information on his allegations, let him forward the same to the police for investigations,” Oyagi said.
At the same time, the governor said he will defend his seat in next year’s general elections as he also focuses on supporting the opposition to remove the Kenya Kwanza regime from power.
His wish is to complete all projects he has initiated in the region, and his vision remains to eliminate poverty and disease, among other challenges affecting residents.
“As we go to elections next year, God willing, I will still work with the people of Trans Nzoia as we also seek to remove the current regime from power and save our country from bad leadership,” Natembeya said.
He has been leading the distribution of maize seedlings to small-scale farmers in the county.
The governor has told off his political rivals who have stepped up campaigns to oust him.
Natembeya termed the rivals as hirelings sent by their political masters who have no interest in transforming the lives of residents.
The governor said there were three hirelings traversing Trans Nzoia to mislead residents ahead of the next elections so that the residents end up electing the wrong leaders.
“I don’t want to name the three because they do not deserve mileage for being mentioned as those seeking to remove me. However, I want the people of Trans Nzoia to know that those are hyenas in sheep skins. They have been sent by the same masters in Ford Kenya,“ he said.
The county has, in the recent past, witnessed increased political activities by aspirants seeking to vie for the governor’s seat next year.
Those who have declared interest to face off with Natembeya include Dr Chris Wamalwa, who lost in the last elections, and former CS for Health Susan Nakhumicha.
Also interested is Kiminini MP Kakai Bisau. They have accused Natembeya of focusing on politics without delivering tangible development since he was elected.
However, Natembeya has already launched several of his completed projects and urged residents not to be misled by people who are serving external masters.
“They have been sent with a lot of money, and I urge you to ensure you take the cash but prepare to vote wisely next year,” he said.
