Gachagua set for two-month US tour to woo diaspora ahead of 2027

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is set to embark on his first foreign trip since his ouster last October.

He is seeking to woo the Kenyan diaspora ahead of the 2027 elections.

Gachagua, who now leads the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), will tour several cities in the United States of America between July and August.

According to a brief itinerary seen by The Star, Gachagua will visit Dallas, California, Seattle, Boston, and Baltimore during his US tour.

During the trip, Gachagua will hold several town hall meetings with Kenyans living in the US and attend social gatherings to promote his agenda for the diaspora community.

The former DP is also expected to interact with selected American businesspeople and investors as part of a broader campaign to position the opposition as a viable alternative in the run-up to the 2027 general election.

Insiders revealed that the DCP leader is scheduled to hold meetings with investors who are reportedly interested in partnering with the opposition ahead of the 2027 polls.

“This is going to be a major tour for the DCP leader and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to connect with Kenyans in the US and seek input from all segments of the diaspora,” said a source familiar with the trip.

“There are numerous events planned across several US cities, including concerts featuring Kenyan artists living in the US.”

Gachagua is a key figure in the opposition coalition, which includes Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, People’s Liberation Party leader Martha Karua, DAP-K boss Eugene Wamalwa, and former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i.

Gachagua’s tour comes just days after Matiang’i took his 2027 presidential bid to the international stage, beginning a series of diaspora engagements with a town hall meeting in Texas, USA.

In a spirited event held at DFW Celebrations in Irving over the weekend, Matiang’i was warmly received by Kenyans residing in the Dallas–Fort Worth area.

The meeting drew a diverse crowd, with many attendees eager to hear his vision for the country and the role he envisions for the diaspora in shaping Kenya’s future.

Matiang’i, who recently resigned from the World Bank to focus on the 2027 presidential race, used the forum to reaffirm his commitment to inclusive leadership and acknowledged the growing influence of Kenyans abroad in national affairs.

“We cannot build a future for Kenya without the diaspora,” he told the audience. “Your voice matters. Your presence counts.”
