High Court halts prosecution of Thika Magistrate Stella Atambo in corruption case

The High Court has issued temporary orders barring the Deputy of Public Prosecutions (DPP) from prosecuting Thika Magistrate Stella Atambo over corruption.

According to Justice Chacha Mwita, the orders will remain in effect until June 10th, 2025 when a petition challenging the case’s legality is determined.

This ruling follows a probe that was launched into Atambo by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) where Ksh2,070,000 in cash was discovered stashed inside a laptop bag at her residence.

The magistrate then filed a petition challenging the legality of the search and the impending prosecution.

The court’s decision provides temporary relief for Atambo as the legal battle over her prosecution unfolds.
