Source: Getty Images What is Saba Saba Day? The concert comes on the day the country is marking Saba Saba, a day celebrated on July 7 of every year. July 7 is a historical day for Kenya. It is commemorated yearly to relinquish memories of July 7, 1990, when nationwide protests took place in Kenya to demand multi-party democracy. On this historic day, Kenya witnessed the largest nationwide protests, which were led by leaders including Kenneth Matiba and Charles Rubia. How many people died in the finance bill protests The 2024 Saba Saba Day has changed focus as organisers now dedicate it to honouring Kenyans lost in the recent anti-government demonstrations. According to the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR), 39 people were killed in the nationwide protests that occurred from June 18 to July 1, 2024. In its report, KNCHR said there were 32 abductions and 627 arrests of protesters. Bonfice Mwangi said the concert would be held at Uhuru Park grounds and would be used to commemorate those who lost their lives through gunshots and other forms of violence meted out towards the protesters.  The peace concert will run from 12pm to 7pm. Why Kennedy Onyango’s burial was stopped? Meanwhile, police sought to absolve themselves after being accused of disrupting the burial of a 12-year-old boy at his parent’s home in Mbita. Kennedy Onyango was to be interred on Saturday, July 6. State law enforcers would, however, block the burial, leaving the funeral scene with the body. Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome said the officers acted on orders from the Mbita Law Court after the deceased’s biological father filed a plaint to challenge the burial.
