There have been mixed reactions online regarding the burial of deceased anti-Finance Bill 2024 protestors. Rex Masai: Mixed Reactions as Protester is Buried in Casked Draped with Kenyan Flag This is after human rights activist Boniface Mwangi pushed for the idea of protestors being buried with Kenyan flags. Why Boniface Mwangi wants protestors buried with Kenyan flag Mwangi played a key role in organising the Occupy Parliament protests that saw thousands of youths storm the streets. PAccording to him, the fallen demonstrators deserve the flag because they died fighting for justice.  “Bury them with the Kenyan flag, they died for us. For those who can, please make an effort to attend the funerals,” he wrote. During the burial of Andrew Mwawasi, Mwangi shared an emotional video of the ceremony as mourners thronged the venue to bid farewell to the protestor. Who merits a flag over the casket? He faulted the government for taking too long to address the public’s concerns about the controversial Bill. “No one has been held accountable. No resignation, or even an official apology from the government,” he lamented. However, his idea has been criticised, as some Kenyans opined that it was far-fetched. Normally, only state figures and military officers are given the honour of having their caskets draped in the flag. Mixed reactions over burying Kenyan flag Digital Kenyan Cops: “With due respect, it’s not right to bury the Kenyan flag. It’s spiritually and morally wrong; we can’t lay our flag to rest, even in military and police flags, which are removed as the casket descends. Our flag must fly high.”  Domisiano Kailikia Mungania “It’s an abomination to bury Kenyan flag. Even generals are never buried together with the flag.” Kenneth Leonard: “Be patriotic. The flag isn’t meant to bury the people. It’s only covered for the patriotism and sympathy of the nation.” Murangiri Eston: “This flag has lost its meaning since our constitution, and we are no longer enjoying the freedom our liberators fought for.” Rex Masai buried in Machakos Rex Masai, who was shot dead during anti-Finance Bill protests in Nairobi, was laid to rest.
