Police have launched investigations following the death of a 29-year-old woman and her 5-year-old child in Kabironi village, Kirinyaga county. Moreen Wangui fell and drowned in River Nyamindi in Kirinyaga county. Why Moreen Wambui fell into the river Gichugu sub-county Police Commander Johnson Wachira said the woman, identified as Moreen Wangui Munene, fell into Nyamindi River with her child strapped on her back and drowned. “The matter has been reported to us, and investigations are in progress,” Wachira said, as reported by Citizen Digital. Wachira said police officers are presently working together with the residents in a bid to retrieve the bodies from the river. The woman’s uncle, Stephen Maembe, said the motives for her actions remain unknown, adding that a watchman at a coffee factory witnessed the incident and raised an alarm, but it was too late. “She was seen by a Kainamoi coffee factory watchman who raised the alarm before we arrived here and informed the authorities. We are grieving, and we are appealing to the government to help us recover the bodies of our loved ones,” Maembe said. The shocked family said the woman had visited her grandparents and was last seen washing clothes before she mysteriously disappeared. Her grandmother Fridah Njoki says Wangui and her daughter had come to visit her as her parents, who are civil servants works in Embu County. “She was a very good girl and her baby too,” the grieving grandmother said. Reports seen by TUKO.co.ke showed that the two students drowned in the Enkare River on Thursday, April 25. The two students, a male and a female, were on an adventure when the tragic incident happened. Narok County Commissioner Kapkech Lotiatia and County Police Commander Riko Ngare are currently at the scene, leading the search for the bodies of the two students. Preliminary investigations indicate that the two second-year students attempted to cross a narrow bridge when they slipped and were swept away by the swift currents of the swollen river.
