At least 25 swim clubs and schools will compete at the Kiambu Aquatics Level One Swimming Championship scheduled for January 24–25 at Potterhouse School, Runda.
The championship will attract a strong field featuring established clubs, fast-rising teams and school programmes, promising intense competition across all age groups.
Among the confirmed participants are Braeburn, Dashing Dolphins, Elite Aqua Warriors, Aga Khan Academy, Visa Dolphins, Harpoons, SABIS School, SuperMarlins, Aquawave, Merishaw School, Dive Master, Snook, Beapro, Swimnation Club, Wadi Degla Club and Juja Elite Club.
Others set to grace the meet include Genesis Sports, Condor, Orca Swim Club, Swimming Talents, ACK Thika Memorial Church School, Nova Pioneer Tatu City, Crawford International School, Moi Educational Centre, Woodcreek, Makini Academy, Aqua Shark, Torpedo Eldoret and host club Potterhouse.
The blend of powerhouse clubs and emerging programs is expected to produce packed heats and fiercely contested races, with medals likely to be hard-earned throughout the two-day event.
SuperMarlins Swim Club head coach Gabriel Kamau described the championship as a critical milestone in the club’s season-long ambition of topping the Kiambu Aquatics Swimming League standings by July. “We are approaching this championship with complete focus, and nothing has been left to chance,” said Kamau. “It is a key event for us, and we are looking to post strong performances.”
Kamau revealed that SuperMarlins will field almost their entire squad, with swimmers strategically placed along a structured athlete development pathway.
He added that the response from the athletes has been encouraging, noting steady improvement and a growing commitment to the demands of training as they prepare for what he termed a crucial meet.
With two weeks remaining until the championship, Kamau expressed confidence that his swimmers will deliver positive results. One of the standout swimmers expected to lead the SuperMarlins charge is Chris Mugo, the national silver medallist in the 200 metres breaststroke in the 14–15 age category.
For Mugo, the Kiambu Aquatics championship represents more than a medal hunt, forming part of his broader push to break into the Team Kenya setup ahead of upcoming Africa Aquatics competitions.
