Life can change in a single moment. For Robert, a father of three from Mukono, Uganda, that moment came when he received a final eviction notice from his landlord. After years of struggling to provide for his family, this was the breaking point. His rent arrears had accumulated after losing his job, and every promise he made to clear the balance had failed. The landlord had lost patience and given him only a few days to vacate the house.
Robert explained that his problems did not start suddenly. He had always worked hard, taking any job available to feed his family. However, things began going wrong one after another. His small side business collapsed, medical bills drained his savings, and job applications were rejected repeatedly. “It felt like no matter what I did, I was moving backward,” Robert said. “I watched my children sleep, knowing we might be on the streets soon.”
