Davji Atellah courts Abagusii support in Lang’ata MP race

Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) secretary gGeneral Dr Davji Atellah has stepped up his campaign to succeed Phelix Odiwuor, popularly known as Jalang’o, as the MP for Lang’ata Constituency in the 2027 general election.

Atellah intensified his grassroots engagements with a meeting with members of the Abagusii community in Lang’ata, where he listened to concerns affecting residents and discussed priorities for the constituency.

The KMPDU boss said the engagement provided an opportunity to understand the challenges facing different communities and assess what needs to be done to improve residents’ quality of life.

“I believe the most meaningful way to understand an issue is to speak directly with those who wear the shoe. To listen to their experiences, concerns, ideas, and aspirations firsthand,” Atellah said.

He said the meeting demonstrated the need for inclusive leadership that takes into account the experiences of different communities living in Lang’ata.

“Different perspectives, different experiences, but one shared story: every community deserves to be heard, included, and given an opportunity to thrive,” he said.

The engagement was also used by members of the Abagusii community to outline some of the issues they want addressed by the next Lang’ata MP.

Omogusii Constituency Leader Valerie Asango said residents were particularly concerned about education, equitable distribution of bursaries and support for vulnerable families.

“Members of the Omogusii community in Lang’ata constituency have spoken clearly about the issues affecting our people, particularly access to education, equitable distribution of bursaries, and the need to support widows and orphans who have for a long time felt left out,” Asango said.

“We want a leadership that listens to the people and responds to their needs. As a community, we are seeking change, and we believe Daktari will give our community the attention, inclusion and support it deserves,” she added.

Jalang’o has announced that he will not defend his Lang’ata seat in 2027 and instead plans to contest the Nairobi Senate position, leaving the constituency open for a new MP.

Atellah has not disclosed the political party whose ticket he will seek or the political formation he intends to align himself with ahead of the election.

His political profile has largely been shaped by his leadership of KMPDU, where he has campaigned over doctors’ salaries, payment of arrears, promotions and career progression.
