The Kenya Institute of Supplies Management (KISM) is committed to bringing its services closer to the people by expanding its reach at the grassroots level.
In line with this goal, KISM is operationalising a framework that will enable the institute to deliver its services seamlessly to the public and stakeholders through Huduma Centers.
Speaking at a Mombasa hotel, KISM CEO Kenneth Matiba announced the launch of the institute’s first service centre at the Machakos Huduma Center, marking a significant milestone in KISM’s commitment to enhancing service accessibility.
He further emphasized that this initiative will be rolled out across the country as part of their broader strategy to ensure procurement and supply chain professionals as well as the public can easily access the institute’s services.
“We are here alongside our Chairman, Mr. John Karani, and the leadership of the World Bank, actively participating in a 14-day programme dedicated to strengthening the capacity of procurement and supply chain professionals.
This initiative is designed to equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively manage and oversee World Bank-funded projects, ensuring compliance, efficiency, and accountability.
We have been here, and we will continue to be here in the coming days, reaffirming our commitment to professional excellence in the sector.” Matiba disclosed.
He emphasized their commitment to ongoing engagement with stakeholders on various programmes and urged employers to support procurement and supply chain professionals in seizing such opportunities.
This, he noted, would help safeguard public resources and ensure that all procurements are conducted in strict compliance with the law.
John Karani, KISM’s chairman, noted that this particular programme is a landmark event that has progressed since 2019, when they started the partnership with the World Bank to make sure that Kenya, specifically, becomes the centre of the supply chain, ensuring all the people that are involved in procurement and supply chains, ensuring that procurement and supply chain professionals receive world-class expertise to enhance efficiency, transparency, and accountability in the sector.
“We want to continue entrenching this as the centre of excellence in Kenya and especially right here in Mombasa, where we’re going to be establishing our real centre that will drive the evolution of supply chain programmes across the region.
This centre will not only enhance capacity building but also attract professionals from across World Bank-funded projects, reinforcing Kenya’s position as a key player in global procurement and supply chain training.” Karani noted.
He added that this has been the genesis of their efforts, enabling them to establish their own Centre of Excellence in Kilifi, which will serve as the hub for all such programmes, with the World Bank playing a crucial role as the key pillar in its establishment. He noted the initiative to be a significant regional launch.
“Our job is therefore to equip our people, our partners across all these MDS ministries, departments, and county governments, to ensure that they become accountable with integrity and ensure that the things that happen are done seamlessly in the provisions of the World Bank Genesis,” Karani said.
