Federation of Women lawyers (Fida) has said it shall represent the minor who was allegedly defiled by an officer at Murang’a police station cells where she was remanded.
The Federation’s Deputy Director Barbara Kawira told the Nation that they will pursue the matter until is concluded.
“We are prepared to follow the case until the minor gets justice,” she said.
She said she learnt about the heinous act after a whistle-blower posted on his Facebook account.
SENATOR
She said she and she visited him in Murang’a and convinced him to record a statement at county commissioner’s office since he feared for his life.
She has also demanded an explanation from the police as to why the 13-year-old girl was remanded in an adult female cells instead of a minor cells as stipulated in the Constitution.
At the same time Murang’a Senator Irungu Kang’ata has condemned the act and called for the prosecution of the police officer.
Mr Kanga’ta, who is representing an inmate, who witnessed the act, said Murang’a County Commissioner John Elungata did not arrest the officer after the act was reported.
He has also demanded his client be provided with security after he was threatened for reporting the incident.
STEALING CLOTHES
“My client fears for his life and should anything happen to him, we shall blame the police,” he said.
He said he will seek legal action following the police department for remanding the minor in female adult cells.
The girl was arrested on Friday last week and was arraigned at Murang’a court on Monday on charged of stealing clothes.
She took plea on Tuesday, where she denied charges and is being remanded at Murang’a Juvenile remand home.
Her family has also demanded for prosecution of the police officer.
However according to Murang’a North OCPD Johnstone Limo the officer has not been arrested since the investigations have not been concluded.
