Veteran media personality and former Harambee Stars coach, Ghost Mulei credits travelling to India to donate his kidney to a loved one for saving his life.
According to the energetic radio presenter his younger brother, who sadly passed away back in 2021, needed an organ transplant, and being a match Mulei accompanied him overseas for his cancer treatment.
Interestingly enough, while there he decided to undergo a full body scan, and a day before his flight back home, he was put on a sleep apnoea test. Mulei recounts being told how lucky he was to be alive when he took the results to an ENT specialist.
Narrating his struggles with the condition the former football coach shared, “I used to sleep a lot in the studio sometimes until he (Gidi) would say, ‘Are you done praying for the show?’. I did not know I had sleep apnea, and I stayed with it for a very long time.
When I took my brother to India for treatment, I went for a whole-body check-up. I was leaving on a Sunday, so they brought the sleep test on a Saturday. In the morning, I took the report to the ENT, and she told me one thing, ‘Thank God you are still alive’,” while speaking with YouTuber Oga Obinna.
Ghost revealed there’d be moments when an enveloping urge to sleep would come over him on occasions when he was driving which would force him to park his car where he can and just submit to sleep.
“Once your sleep comes, it comes. It was a very tough thing,” he added.
Luckily for him once detected there are medical ways for dealing with the condition. Ghost underwent surgery which helped ease his living conditions.
“There are many types, and mine was acute. I had surgery, and they removed a huge piece from my throat. After that I never get tired. It is not a good condition, it disturbed me,” the former Harambee Stars coach shared
