Kenyan gospel singer Mercy Masika has shared her views on marriage, insisting that couples should approach their unions as covenants rather than contracts that can be abandoned when challenges arise.
In a video shared on her Instagram page, the singer explained that faith in God, prayer and a willingness to work through differences are important ingredients in building a lasting marriage.
Mercy argued that some people consider leaving their marriages when their partners fail to meet certain expectations, but encouraged couples to seek God’s wisdom and work towards resolving their differences.

“Marriage is not a contract, it’s a covenant,” she said.
The gospel singer maintained that disagreements and challenges should not automatically become reasons for ending a marriage, urging couples who share her faith to trust God as they work through difficult seasons.
Mercy Masika Urges Couples to Work Through Marriage Challenges
According to Mercy, marriage requires commitment, patience and a willingness to address issues rather than walking away whenever things do not go as expected.
“So many times people go like, because he didn’t do this, because she didn’t do this, I don’t wanna be in this marriage,” she explained.
She encouraged couples to pray for wisdom and guidance when faced with disagreements, arguing that faith can help them navigate difficult moments in their relationships.
“Marriage is covenant, covenant you don’t leave because you have differences or because you have challenges, you stay in that marriage and believe God and ask God for wisdom to be able to sort out the differences that you have,” Mercy stated.

However, the singer was careful to distinguish her message from advice to remain in dangerous relationships, explicitly noting that her position did not apply to abusive marriages.
“I don’t mean staying in an abusive marriage, no!” she clarified.
Mercy emphasised that her message was about couples who can safely work on their relationships and are willing to put in the effort required to strengthen their unions.
Gospel Singer Says Prayer Can Transform Partners
Mercy also spoke about the role of prayer and personal transformation, explaining that couples should not only ask God to change their partners but also be willing to change themselves.

She encouraged women to approach marriage with faith while remaining open to personal growth and working towards the kind of relationship they desire.
“But what I’m saying is believe and work towards that marriage in faith. Marriages are worked on by faith, asking God to do the stuff, change me, change my husband to be what I prayed for,” she said.
The singer added that such transformation may take time but expressed her belief that persistence and faith can eventually produce the desired results.
“It may take some time, but eventually it becomes a reality,” she added.
