‘I Love Wamunyoro’ goes to Texas as Gachagua calls Dallas his home away from home

The “I Love Wamunyoro” message associated with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s rural home in Mathira has made its way to Dallas, Texas, where Kenyan supporters welcomed him during his visit.

A large personalised sign bearing the words “I ❤️ WAMUNYORO” was displayed at the residence where Gachagua and his wife, Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, were received after arriving in Dallas.

The display echoed the sign at Gachagua’s Wamunyoro home in Mathira, which has become a familiar backdrop for photographs and gatherings involving his supporters.

Gachagua previously explained that the sign was put up after supporters wanted a visible symbol identifying with his rural home.

In Dallas, the sign provided a striking backdrop as Gachagua and Pastor Dorcas interacted with members of the Kenyan community, exchanging handshakes, embraces and conversations.

Gachagua also described Dallas in similarly personal terms, saying the city had become a place where he felt at home.

“Dallas is my home away from home. I always feel at home here, and being in Texas brings me so much joy and happiness,” he said in a post accompanying photographs of his arrival.

He said he had travelled to Dallas with Pastor Dorcas to continue engaging Kenyans living in the area and build networks for collaboration.

“Accompanied by my spouse, Rev. Dorcas, I have arrived in Dallas, Texas, to continue engaging with Kenyans living here and to build networks for collaboration,” he said.

The couple received a warm welcome at the airport, where supporters gathered inside the terminal with handshakes, songs and flowers. Many wore bright green T-shirts and caps branded “TEXAS DCP – DIASPORA CAUCUS” alongside the slogan “Skiza Wakenya”.

Some also carried the Kenyan flag. A young girl and members of the host team presented bouquets to Gachagua and Pastor Dorcas as they made their way through the terminal.

The welcome continued outside the airport, where the couple travelled in a motorcade of black SUVs accompanied by police officers riding white motorcycles with flashing lights.

Kenyan and American flags were displayed along the driveway of the residence where they were received. Gachagua, dressed in a cowboy hat and denim jacket, later posed with his wife and supporters at the residence, with the “I ❤️ WAMUNYORO” sign providing the backdrop. Gachagua said he was grateful for the reception and looked forward to a fruitful stay in Dallas.
