An 11-year-old girl has drowned in River Yala while fetching water with her friends in Kosoro Village, Gem Yala Sub-County, Siaya County.
The deceased was a Grade 5 pupil at Yala Township Comprehensive Primary School, police revealed.
Police officers visited the scene and established that the girl had gone to the river with her friends to fetch water when she accidentally slipped and fell into the river.
One of her friends reportedly alerted her mother, who rushed to the scene. With the assistance of members of the public, they managed to retrieve the girl’s body, but she had already died.
The report further indicates that the mother had gone to church in Yala Township and left her daughter at home.
Police documented the scene before the body was moved to Yala Level IV Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending an autopsy.
The incident was among drowning incidents reported to police.
Elsewhere, police in Bungoma South are investigating the death of a man whose body was found floating in River Nzoia on Sunday morning.
The deceased, identified as Nicholas Kisiang’ani, was discovered at around 11 a.m. on September 13, 2026.
Police officers from Sang’alo Police Station and detectives from DCI Bungoma South visited the scene and confirmed the incident.
Family members subsequently identified the body.
Crime Scene Investigation personnel from Bungoma South processed and documented the scene before the body was retrieved from the river.
The body was moved to Bungoma County Referral Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending an autopsy to establish the cause of death.
And police in Kilifi are investigating a suspected drowning incident in which a 22-year-old man died while swimming at Mnarani Beach Club.
The deceased, identified as Eugine Lomide, alias Mseru, reportedly went swimming at the beach club on September 12, 2026, at around 3:30 p.m., accompanied by two others.
Witnesses said the three had been swimming for approximately 10 minutes when Lomide disappeared.
His companions were unable to trace him and alerted nearby divers, who joined a search operation, but the search was unsuccessful.
His body was recovered from the Mnarani Beach Club seashore at around 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, September 13.
Police officers from Kilifi Police Station, DCI officers from Kilifi North Sub-County and Scenes of Crime personnel visited the scene, which was processed and documented.
The body had no visible injuries and was moved to the Kilifi County Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a post-mortem examination.
In the same area, police are investigating the death of a 30-year-old man whose body was found at Ndodo Beach.
The deceased, identified as David Sabaa, a Giriama male adult, was discovered after a fisherman reportedly spotted a lifeless body at the beach and informed a village elder.
Preliminary information indicates that Sabaa was last seen at his home at around 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 12, 2026.
The report further states that he had a history of epilepsy dating back to childhood.
No visible injuries were observed on the body.
