A 39-year-old construction worker died after being hit on the head by a falling concrete block at a building site in Tudor, Mombasa County.
According to police, the incident occurred on Tuesday morning at about 9:00 a.m. at the construction site.
The deceased was identified as Jotham Olouch, a 39-year-old.
He was among more than a dozen workers who had reported for duty at the site.
Police said a four-inch concrete block fell from the 11th floor of the building under construction and struck him on the head, causing serious injuries.
He was immediately taken to Tudor Health Care Clinic for emergency treatment but succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical care.
The body was transferred to the Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary for preservation pending a post-mortem examination.
The death halted construction at the site as police and county officials said they were investigating the matter.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, including compliance with workplace safety measures at the construction site.
And police in Gigiri Sub-County, Nairobi, are investigating a fatal workplace incident in which a construction worker died after reportedly suffocating inside an underground water tank.
According to police, the incident occurred at the construction site located within Citypark Estate.
The report was made by the site security in charge, who said that three casual workers had been cleaning an underground water tank approximately five metres deep when they began experiencing breathing difficulties there.
Other workers at the site responded immediately and managed to rescue two of the workers.
However, the third worker, Nicholas Mbata, aged 22, was pulled from the tank unresponsive.
Emergency responders confirmed that he had died, with suffocation suspected as the cause due to lack of oxygen in the confined space.
Police officers from Parklands Police Station, together with Scene of Crime Investigators from the Nairobi Area, visited and processed the scene.
The body was removed to Nairobi Funeral Home pending a post-mortem examination, while investigations continue into possible safety lapses at the construction site.
