Skater Kevin Kiarie Announces Bid to Run for Roysambu MP: “I Shall Serve and Deliver”

Kenya’s celebrated skater Kevin Kiarie has officially thrown his helmet into the political ring, announcing on Sunday, October 12, 2026 that he will be contesting the Roysambu parliamentary seat in the 2027 general election. Skater Kevin Kiarie has announced his bid to run for MP in 2027.  Kiarie, widely known by his handle @KelvinuhK on X, shared the announcement alongside a campaign poster showing he will be running under the Democratic Congress Party (DCP), carrying the “Gen Z Power” banner and the Swahili tagline ‘Mwanzo Mpya’, meaning “New Beginning.” The skater’s frustration with government institutions is no secret. For months, Kiarie struggled to secure public funding to represent Kenya at international skating competitions, often being forced to fundraise on his own or pull out of events altogether.  It is a grievance that appears to have sharpened his appetite for a political seat from which he believes he can make a tangible difference.

Kevin Kiarie’s message to Roysambu voters In his announcement, Kiarie described Roysambu as a cosmopolitan constituency sitting on untapped potential in business, education, infrastructure and healthcare. He pledged to champion the interests of athletes and young Kenyans if elected to the National Assembly on August 10, 2027. “There are plenty of opportunities for our youths here in Kenya more than anywhere else in the world and I shall stand to defend my fellow athletes without fear,” Kiarie wrote, adding that he would protect constituents from “broken systems” that crush the dreams of hardworking Kenyans. He listed ballot number 003 on the DCP ticket, under the party’s *Skiza Wakenya* motto. Whether voters in Roysambu will rally behind a candidate whose career has been built on a skateboard rather than a campaign trail remains to be seen, but Kiarie appears firmly committed. “I will give Roysambu a voice we haven’t had for so long,” he wrote, signing off with his signature rallying cry: “WANTAM!”

The announcement drew a mixed bag of reactions on X, with supporters and sceptics weighing in. Here are some of the comments from social media users: @l0n3n1nj4 said: “All the best! You’ve been really bothering me!” @Kim_ALF0NS0 said: “Fight for us, usisahau watu wa sports. Cricket 🏏 iko ICU.” @Charlie_Total90 said: “Kila mtu ako na dreams zake, on this, I can only say, best of luck in your MP endeavour!” @muriithi_tm_ said: “Go for it bruv.” @SlipiMax said: “Why, why, why is it mkipewa audience na X mnakimbilia elective seats. Why? Anyway DCP won’t give you that ticket. Bookmark this.” @eliod_pro said: “The devil sees you making some good strides in life, then she advises you to join politics.”
