State House Girls’ High School in Nairobi has expanded its infrastructure with 21 new classrooms and modern science and computer laboratories to address overcrowding and support the rollout of Senior School under the Competency-Based Education system.
Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration Raymond Omollo said the school had grown from a converted colonial sanatorium into an institution associated with excellence and leadership.
“Just a heartbeat from the gates of the State House, Nairobi, its identity is now defined as much by excellence as by proximity,” Omollo said.
He said growing enrolment and the introduction of Senior School had exposed severe overcrowding, prompting the expansion of the school’s facilities.
The new classrooms are complete and awaiting the installation of necessary equipment and official commissioning. They feature integrated digital systems, including televisions.
The expansion also includes Biology, Chemistry and Physics laboratories that will be fitted with modern safety features and equipment to support STEM pathways.
Omollo said the fully networked computer laboratory would strengthen ICT and computer studies once completed.
With the additional facilities, the school can now accommodate more than 1,700 students across 24 instructional rooms. The expansion is expected to ease pressure on existing facilities while creating capacity for future Senior School cohorts.
Security has also been incorporated into the investment, with the State Department for Internal Security and National Administration playing a direct role in ensuring the expanded school environment remains secure and orderly.
Omollo said the security measures would support conditions in which the new facilities can serve their purpose.
The expanded environment is intended to provide girls with a safe setting to learn, develop their talents and prepare for the responsibilities ahead.
The school’s transformation comes as it expands its capacity to meet growing enrolment while providing facilities for science, technology and computer-based learning.
