Singer Nadia Mukami has a rather unusual birthday wish list this year. As she counts down to turning 30, the songbird says she wants building materials, not the usual gifts.
Taking to Instagram, Mukami shared her request with fans in a light-hearted post.
“My 30th birthday is almost here: The only birthday gift nataka ni Cement na chuma”
She didn’t stop there. The singer poked fun at a common social media trend where influencers stage extravagant birthday reveals.
“Mambo ya ‘A Queen was born’ naomba we do not do that this year.”
Fans react
The comment section quickly filled up with reactions. Fellow content creator Tanasha Donna dropped a string of emojis in support.
Another follower, ologi_scorefield, couldn’t resist a cheeky jab at the cement and steel request.
“Unataka waseme walikujengea nyumba?”
The comment drew over 200 likes, with several fans joining in on the joke.
Behind the scenes at the site
Alongside her message, Mukami shared photos from what appears to be an active construction site. The images show a property still in its shell stage, with grey block walls yet to be plastered and rooms open to the sky in places.
In the background, workers can be seen crouched over large welded steel grilles laid flat on the sandy ground. The metal frames, divided into small rectangular panels, look destined for windows or doors once fitted.

Scattered around the compound are offcuts of timber, old shutter boards, and lengths of rebar, the usual debris of an active building site. Wires trail across the compacted earth floor, likely running to a welding machine parked nearby.
In one photo, Mukami poses for a selfie with the site as her backdrop. She wears a light knit jumper, her hair loose and coloured a warm caramel tone, a face mask pulled down to her chin. Behind her, the workers continue their tasks, seemingly unbothered by the camera.
A milestone birthday
Mukami rose to fame after her breakthrough on Coke Studio Africa, going on to release hits such as “Kesi,” “Radio Love” and “Kai Wangu.” She shares a son, Kai, with fellow musician Arrow Bwoy.
As her 30th birthday approaches, the singer’s message is clear. This year, she wants to build, not just celebrate.
