Moiben constituency in Uasin Gishu County is seeing increased political activity as more than 10 aspirants seek the UDA ticket ahead of next year’s General Election.
The aspirants have been holding meetings and attending community events across the constituency as they seek support ahead of the party primaries.
The seat is currently held by MP Phyllis Bartoo, who is serving her first term and is seeking to retain the constituency.
Among those seeking the UDA ticket is youthful aspirant Cyrus Lagat, popularly known as ‘Transformer’.
Lagat says he wants to focus on addressing challenges facing the constituency and improving opportunities for residents.
“We have many challenges in Moiben. I am here to transform Moiben because everyone knows me as a transformer,” he said.
Lagat has also been involved in community empowerment activities, particularly those targeting young people.
He said the constituency has significant agricultural potential that could be used to create employment and income-generating opportunities.
“As a young person, I have a fresh vision for Moiben because I grew up in the area and I know where we have weaknesses in leadership that must be addressed to drive the transformation we need,” he said.
He said he would work with residents and other stakeholders to identify and develop available opportunities.
“Once we identify and tap the available opportunities, we will work with all stakeholders to create jobs and other income-generating activities for our people,” Lagat said.
Bartoo is also seeking a second term and has been engaging residents at various events across the constituency.
“In Moiben, it’s two terms for President William Ruto and also a second term for Bartoo,” she said at a recent women’s empowerment forum in the constituency.
Other aspirants seeking the UDA ticket include Patrick Kiptoo, former MP Sila Tiren, Donald Murgor, former area MP Joseph Lagat and former MCA Josphat Lowoi.
With the party primaries less than eight months away, the aspirants are increasing their engagements across the constituency, particularly during weekends when they attend community events.
Lagat said his activities also include voter registration efforts and support for President William Ruto’s re-election bid.
“We are mobilising residents to register as voters and also support President Ruto for a second term because he has done good work across the country,” Lagat said.
