“Without My Family, I Wouldn’t Have Made It”: Davido Opens Up About Life’s Toughest Moments

Nigerian music star Davido has opened up about the role his family has played in helping him navigate some of the most difficult moments of his life, saying their unwavering support enabled him to recover from personal loss and public controversies.

Speaking during an interview with The Vibe Q, which was later shared on the platform’s YouTube channel and Instagram page, the award-winning singer reflected on his younger years, the mistakes he believes he made and the lessons he has learnt through adversity.

Looking back with perspective

Asked whether he ever thinks about decisions he made when he was younger and how some of his mistakes could have been avoided, Davido admitted that he often reflects on his past.
The singer said he also considers how he managed to come through some of the toughest experiences in his life and continue with his career.
However, he said one factor has remained constant throughout every challenge — the support of his family.

“Without my family, I wouldn’t have made it”

Davido said his brother, sister and father are always the first people to reach out whenever he is facing difficulties.

Although he noted that his mother is no longer alive, he explained that the rest of his family has consistently stood by him through every major life event.

“Without my family, I don’t think I would have gotten through loss, gotten through scandals.”

He revealed that after the death of his son in 2022, his family stayed with him until he was emotionally ready to move forward.
According to the singer, their presence helped him regain his mental and spiritual strength during one of the darkest periods of his life.

Returning to the stage

Davido said seeing his family watch him perform again reminds him of how far he has come since those painful moments.
He described their encouragement as a sign that they believe he has rediscovered his confidence and passion for performing.

“They got me back to where I needed to be mentally, spiritually.”

The Afrobeats star added that whenever he needs help, his family responds without hesitation, even during periods when his busy schedule prevents him from staying in regular contact with them.

Family remains his biggest support.

While acknowledging that not everyone enjoys close family relationships, Davido stressed that his own experience has taught him never to take family for granted.

“Nobody will care about you more than your family, your blood. In my situation, my family has been very good to me.”
