Dancer Lucee, a member of Kenyan dance group Cluster, has opened up about an experience she had during a music video shoot, sharing how she was moved from the front of a dance formation before the cameras started rolling. In a video shared on her TikTok account, Lucee narrated that she had spent time preparing for the shoot, including attending rehearsals for about a week before the filming day.She explained that rehearsals were important because some of the dancers she was working with were people she had never danced alongside before.“I went for a music video shoot. I was called for the shoot, and I had been going for practice for a week because, you know, there are artists who rehearse before the video shoot.”
Lucee says she was ready for the performance.
According to the dancer, the shoot took place at night and continued throughout the night. She explained that the person who had trained the dancers and connected her to the job initially placed her at the front of the group.“When we got on set, the person who was training us, the one who also gave me the job, put me in front and said, ‘That girl has to dance in front.’”
Lucee said she followed the instructions and moved to the front However, she claimed that the producer later instructed the team to move her to the back of the formation. “Tell me why the producer says, ‘Take that fat girl and move her to the back.’Dancer questions the decision.Lucee said she was disappointed by the decision because she felt the producer had not given her a chance to show what she could do as a dancer. She questioned why someone would make assumptions about her ability without first seeing her perform. “You have not even seen how I dance. You have not seen anything about me, and you are already saying I should go to the back.”She said such experiences can affect people, especially when their abilities are judged before they are given an opportunity. “Look at even something a person can do, then you tell them to go to the back.”Cluster Dancer Lucee // Instagram
Lucee encourages confidence
Despite the experience, Lucee said she remains confident in her dancing abilities and does not want anyone to make her feel less valuable. “Anybody can dance. I dance so well, and no one can tell me anything.”
She added that people should remain true to themselves and avoid allowing others to bring them down. “Be yourself. Someone should never bring you down. No one should ever bring you down.”
