Queen of World Cup Anthems: Shakira’s ‘Dai Dai’ Hits 225M Views in One Month

Shakira has once again proved why she is known as the “World Cup Queen” as her latest anthem for the 2026 tournament dominates global charts. Her new song, “Dai Dai,” a collaboration with Nigerian artist Burna Boy, has seen its viewership numbers skyrocket within weeks of its release.

The official music video was published on 23 May 2026. By 24 June, the video had already surpassed 225 million views on YouTube and reached the top ten on the music trending chart.

This massive milestone cements the success of the upbeat track, which has quickly become the sound of the summer.

The phrase ‘Dai Dai’ means ‘come on, come on’ in Italian and is used to urge someone to give their best.

A legacy of tournament anthems

Shakira’s association with football’s biggest stage began two decades ago. She performed “Hips Don’t Lie” at the 2006 World Cup in Germany and followed it with “La La La” for the 2014 tournament in Brazil.

However, it was her 2010 hit, “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa),” that truly defined her legacy. Created for the first African World Cup in South Africa, that song holds the Guinness World Record as the most streamed FIFA World Cup song on Spotify.

It has amassed more than four billion views on YouTube and over one billion streams on Spotify alone.

The global appeal of ‘Dai Dai’

The 2026 anthem is designed for a global audience, reflecting the tournament’s three host nations: the United States, Mexico, and Canada. The lyrics seamlessly blend English, Spanish, Italian, French, and Japanese.

While Shakira and Burna Boy are the lead performers, the track features a diverse team of co-writers, including Ed Sheeran and Jon Bellion. This international collaboration has helped the song reach audiences across different continents and cultures.

Performing for a greater cause

Beyond the record-breaking numbers, “Dai Dai” carries a significant charitable mission. Shakira is slated to perform the song during the first-ever FIFA World Cup final half-time show on 19 July 2026. She will share the stage at MetLife Stadium with Madonna and BTS.

None of the performers will receive a fee for the show. Instead, they are donating their time and the song’s royalties to the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund.

This initiative aims to raise USD 100 million to help children access education and football programmes globally.

“At the FIFA World Cup, those two paths come together… the importance of investing in children’s education steals the show!” — Shakira.

With her royalties and a portion of her upcoming tour ticket sales going to charity, Shakira continues to use her World Cup platform for more than just music.

As “Dai Dai” continues to rake in millions of viewers, her position as the undisputed queen of the tournament remains unchallenged.
