Kenyans Raise Over KSh 1M for Content Creator Valery Odundo’s Mother’s Funeral

Friends, family members and fans of Kenyan content creator Val have raised more than KSh1 million to help her family give her late mother a dignified send-off.
The fundraising drive has collected KSh1,055,295.20, according to updates shared by organisers, highlighting the strong support Val has received from her online community following the loss.
Val, whose real name is Odundo Valery, announced the death of her mother in mid-May, just days after they had celebrated Mother’s Day together.
The creator had previously shared moments from the family gathering, revealing that her mother’s health had shown signs of improvement despite a long illness.

A sudden loss

The news of her mother’s passing came as a shock to many followers.
In a brief message shared online, Val confirmed the death, writing:

“She didn’t make it. She is gone.”

The post prompted an outpouring of condolences from followers, fellow creators, and well-wishers across social media platforms.
According to reports, Val’s mother died on 14 May, only a few days after the family had marked Mother’s Day together.
Val had described the previous weeks as emotionally challenging and had spoken openly about her mother’s health struggles, although she did not publicly disclose the diagnosis.

Fundraising surpasses KSh1 million.

Following the tragedy, supporters launched a fundraising campaign to help cover funeral expenses.

Messages circulated through WhatsApp groups and other social media channels encouraged people to contribute towards the burial arrangements. Organisers thanked supporters for their generosity and continued prayers during the difficult period.

“Thank you all for the support, prayers, and contributions so far. We truly appreciate every kind gesture during this difficult time,” one fundraising message stated.

Burial plans underway

Organisers have confirmed that the burial is scheduled to take place on 13 June in Kisumu County, with additional details expected to be communicated closer to the date.
Supporters have also been invited to attend and stand with the family during the final farewell.
