Kiss FM presenter Mwalimu Rachel has opened up about why one of her past relationships came to an end, revealing that tension began shortly after she bought herself a Mercedes-Benz.
Speaking during an interview with radio host Alex Mwakideu, the NRG Radio presenter explained that her then-boyfriend became uncomfortable after people around him started commenting about the luxury vehicle and the cost of maintaining it.
According to Rachel, some of his friends questioned whether he could keep up with the expenses associated with the car, including replacing tyres and the battery.
“Let me tell you, I left him because I bought a Mercedes-Benz. Some guys told him, ‘Do you even know how much it costs to buy just one tyre for that car? Even replacing the battery will be difficult.’ And he started repeating those things to me,” she said.
Rachel explained that the situation made her realise the relationship dynamic was changing in an unhealthy way.
“I listened and told myself, okay, this is going to be a problem,” she added.
Concerns Over Friends Influencing the Relationship
The mother of one said she became concerned after noticing that her boyfriend seemed heavily influenced by his friends’ opinions regarding their relationship.
“That already showed me that he would keep consulting his friends about everything and then come back telling me, ‘My boys said this and that about you,’” she said.
According to the presenter, the pattern quickly became a red flag and made her feel the relationship had no future.
“I knew this relationship was not going anywhere,” she stated.
Mwalimu Rachel on Men Shooting Their Shot
Her remarks come barely a year after she also addressed how men approach her romantically.
In March last year, while on air during The Morning Kiss alongside DJ Xclusive, Rachel told men interested in dating her to approach her directly instead of going through her co-host.
“Xclusive is neither my father nor my uncle. Don’t go to him and say, ‘I want to talk to Mwalimu, so give me permission,’” she said.
“No, you’re a grown man. Slide into my DMs yourself. If you manage to get my number from Xclusive or anyone else, send me a message, and we’ll see how things go from there.”
