A year after losing her father, Winnie Odinga has revealed what keeps her connected to him: the people he served.

In a post on her TikTok page, the EALA MP said being with those who knew and supported the late Raila Odinga brings him close, and gives her a sense of responsibility.

“Dad, I feel closest to you when I’m with your people,” she said.

A bond rooted in people

For Winnie, the stories and struggles of ordinary Kenyans are a constant reminder of her father. Time spent with those who knew and backed Raila carries a sense of responsibility, the legislator noted.

“The spirit of our great country is carried in every story, every struggle, every person.”

Humbled by the love and strength she has seen, the MP voiced hope of serving with the same commitment her father showed.

Winnie recalls bringing her father home

Days earlier, Winnie opened up about the emotional journey of bringing Raila home, describing it as the most difficult moment of her life.

“Bringing him home was the hardest thing I have ever done.”

The remarks were made on Tuesday, October 13, 2026.

Throughout the journey, the MP clung to her father’s hat. It was among the few things she could still protect as she grappled with the loss.

“I remember being so protective of his hat the whole way. It was his; it still had him in it, and it was the one thing I could still protect,” she stated.

The hat held deep personal meaning, serving as a reminder of Raila. She kept it close until she could safely hand it to people who had helped him wear it many times before.

Letting go only became possible once the hat was in hands that understood its significance. The moment allowed her to release something she had carried through the painful journey.

Her latest reflections add to a series of tributes since her father’s death. The love and strength she has witnessed have left her humbled, and she hopes to serve with the same zeal and commitment he showed.
