One-and-a-half-year-old dies after choking in Mombasa

A one-and-a-half-year-old child died after a choking incident in Kisauni Sub-County, Mombasa County. The incident left a family devastated.

According to police, the matter was reported on Thursday at New Shepard Community Clinic.

The minor was reportedly being fed blended matoke by a house help when he choked before being rushed to the medical facility for emergency treatment.

Doctors who attended to the child conducted a physical examination and established that he had no central pulse, no heartbeat, and was not breathing. Medical personnel also noted fixed and dilated pupils before confirming the child was dead.

Police officers visited the facility and documented the incident before the body was moved to the Coast General Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem examination.

In a separate incident, police in Kisumu East Sub-County are investigating an electrocution case that led to the death of a 62-year-old woman in Kiluthi area on Thursday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Pamela Ngeso Omer. Police said she was electrocuted while feeding chicken inside a store adjacent to her house.

Preliminary investigations indicate that a metallic bed inside the store came into contact with an open socket containing exposed electrical wires. The woman is believed to have been electrocuted after touching the metallic bed. Her body was found lying on the floor next to the bed.

Police documented and processed the scene before the body, which had no visible physical injuries, was moved to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem examination.

The case remains under investigation by detectives from Kisumu East.

Meanwhile, police in Navakholo, Kakamega County are investigating an incident in which a 76-year-old man was killed by his son following an altercation.

Police and locals said there was a dispute between the deceased, identified as Justus Wabwire, and his 40-year-old son over sharing of money accrued from the sale of family sugarcane.

The suspect allegedly used a stone to hit his father on the head, fatally injuring him. He fled the scene as a mob descended on his house and set it on fire. Police arrived shortly after and moved the body to the mortuary for autopsy as the search for the suspect continues.

Police said they are investigating the incident as a murder case.
