Stevo Simple Boy has been unusually quiet on the music front this year. Fans of the Kibera-bred rapper have been wondering why 2026 has yet to see a new release.
Speaking in an exclusive phone interview with Mpasho journalist Moses Sagwe, the artist revealed the reality behind his recent silence.
The Cost of the Craft
Stevo hasn’t walked away from the booth. Instead, he is navigating the financial hurdles of the modern music industry. He explained that he has shifted his focus toward content creation while he organises his finances. Producing high-quality music is a significant investment in today’s market.

“I’m still in music, but of late I have dived deep into content creation. You know music needs a lot of budgets,” Stevo explained.
He specifically pointed to the high costs associated with professional video shoots. For an independent artist, these expenses can be a major barrier to consistent releases.
Does Fatherhood Play a Part?
Since becoming a father, speculation has grown that Stevo’s new family responsibilities have taken priority over his career. The rapper was quick to dismiss these claims. He insists that he is balancing his personal life and his art without issue.
“I can say fatherhood has not slowed my music; the time for music is there,” he stated.
For Stevo, the delay is purely a matter of logistics and funding rather than a lack of time or motivation.
A Milestone in the Works
Stevo’s career began with a massive viral hit. He made his official debut in 2019 with the anti-drug anthem “Mihadarati”. Despite his fame, he has yet to release a full-length studio project. That is set to change in 2026.
He revealed that he is currently preparing to release a new single. After that, he plans to take a short break to finalise his very first album.
This project will mark a major milestone in his seven-year journey in the industry.

“When the album is done, I will invite all my friends in the entertainment for its launch,” he promised.
Fashion and Personal Life
Stevo is also focusing on his brand identity. He has recently been seen promoting a unique “dragon fashion” style. He admits that many Kenyans are still getting used to the bold look, but his goals are international.
“The aim for this fashion of mine is to go viral, outside Kenya,” he said.
Beyond music and clothes, Stevo addressed recent personal headlines. He confirmed that his former partner, Brenda, never managed his music, despite rumours following his exit from previous management.
He also put an end to political rumours, stating he has no plans to run for office in 2027, calling his previous comments “mbwembwe” or clout.
While the “Fresh Barida” star is currently keeping the details of his recent breakup private, he has asked fans to stay alert for future updates. For now, the focus remains on the music and the upcoming debut album.
