Nyashinski Names Wife Zia Bett as His Best Friend in Rare Candid Interview

Kenyan music star Nyashinski has offered a rare glimpse into his personal life after revealing that his wife is his closest companion during a quickfire interview conducted by Mpasho journalist Kalondu Musimi.

In the light-hearted session, Nyashinski was asked a series of rapid questions designed to capture his candid and spontaneous responses. When asked who his best friend is, the award-winning musician responded simply, “My wife.”

He gave the same answer when asked who he calls the most and who he texts the most, consistently pointing to his wife as the person he communicates with most frequently.
The responses highlighted the private but steady relationship Nyashinski has maintained over the years with his spouse, fashion designer Zia Jepkemei Bett, whom he married in 2019 in a traditional ceremony held in Nandi County.

A Private but Supportive Relationship

Nyashinski has largely kept his family life away from the public eye, occasionally sharing glimpses of his wife and child while maintaining a strong boundary between his music career and personal life. Zia Jepkemei Bett, a fashion stylist and entrepreneur, has been part of his journey during key milestones in his career, including his return to Kenya and the growth of his solo brand.
The couple welcomed their first child in 2020, marking another important chapter in Nyashinski’s life as he balanced family and music.

Nyashinski’s Journey in Music

Born Nyamari Ongegu on April 8, 1984, in Kisii, Nyashinski first rose to fame as a founding member of the hip-hop group Kleptomaniax in the early 2000s alongside Collo and Roba.
The trio gained widespread recognition with hits such as Freak It, Tuendelee, and Swing, helping shape Kenya’s urban music scene.
After relocating to the United States in 2006, Nyashinski stepped away from the spotlight and worked as a truck driver for nearly a decade before returning to Kenya in 2016 to restart his music career.
His comeback single Now You Know marked the beginning of a successful solo run that produced popular songs like Malaika and the album Lucky You in 2020.

Recent Projects and Ongoing Work

In recent years, Nyashinski has continued to release new music and expand his artistic direction. He dropped the Good Old Days EP in 2024 and To Whom It May Concern in 2025, projects that showcased his evolving sound and storytelling approach.
He also released his sophomore album Yariasu in 2025 and announced the ShowMan residency scheduled for April 2026, a musical-theatre-inspired live performance experience set to take place in Nairobi.
The quickfire interview moment, where Nyashinski repeatedly named his wife as his best friend and most frequent contact, adds to a growing number of public glimpses into the artist’s personal life, offering audiences a brief but telling look at the people who remain closest to him as his career continues to evolve.
