Controversial preacher Prophet Victor Kanyari of the Salvation Healing Ministry has predicted two national headlines following the upcoming 2027 parliamentary election in Kasarani constituency.
Speaking to his congregants during a Sunday church service in Nairobi, Kanyari declared that his candidacy will dominate national media coverage regardless of the final vote count.
He told his church members that his entry into elective politics guarantees widespread media attention. He framed his campaign for the Kasarani Member of Parliament seat as a story that the press cannot ignore.
“When I am elected to be an MP, media headlines on breaking news will be, ‘A controversial pastor is the next member of parliament’,” Kanyari told his congregation.
He added a second prediction for the opposite result.
“If I lose, it will still be breaking news: ‘Kanyari floored, having only 15 votes. Both will be breaking news. So, I can’t stay here in church waiting for congregants to vote for me; that’s why you see me doing a door-to-door campaign,” he added.
Transition from Pulpit to Politics
Kanyari founded the Salvation Healing Ministry and built a prominent public profile through televised sermons and publicised fundraising campaigns. His most widely known initiative involved asking followers to sow a financial seed of 310 Kenyan shillings.
He is now shifting his focus toward political leadership in Nairobi County. The Kasarani parliamentary seat is currently held by Captain Ronald Karauri, who was elected in August 2022. Political activity in the constituency has increased following reports that Karauri may contest the Nairobi gubernatorial seat in 2027.
Addressing his church members on Sunday, Kanyari explained his motivation for seeking public office. He stated that he wants to remain active and serve the community beyond his ministry work.
“In 2027, I will ask you for a job; I am talking to even my enemies and those who have nothing, because I cannot imagine losing the seat,” Kanyari told the congregation.
“You will decide whether to give it to me so that I also get to work and stop being idle,” he added.
Ground Campaigns and Constituency Context
Kasarani is one of 17 parliamentary constituencies in Nairobi County. The constituency covers five electoral wards: Clay City, Mwiki, Kasarani, Njiru, and Ruai.
Kanyari continues to host regular church services while expanding his political campaign trail across Kasarani ahead of the 2027 general elections.
