A rise in travel, public events, and tourism is expected at this time of year.
In a statement on Tuesday, NPS said it is collaborating with other government organisations to ensure the security of Kenyans, locals, and tourists over the holiday season, which falls during the ongoing rainy season and school closures.
According to NPS, more officers and resources have been sent out across the country to increase police presence, step up patrols, and improve surveillance in public areas, such as shopping centers, places of worship, marketplaces, transportation hubs, and other vital infrastructure.
Police pointed out safety risks during the holiday season due to the rise in travel and social activities.
As a result, authorities have increased efforts to enforce traffic laws, urging drivers, boda boda riders, and owners of public service vehicles to comply.
NPS also warned against speeding, intoxicated driving, distracted driving, and overloading and stated that “strict adherence to traffic rules, regulations, and safety guidelines is essential.”
Additionally, pedestrians are instructed to stay alert and use authorised crossing places.
The NPS emphasised that road safety and security throughout the holiday season remain a shared duty while reiterating its commitment to safeguarding life and property.
